1. Do I have to register somewhere to tell CMS if I’m in MIPS or an Advanced APM?

  1. For MIPS, you only need to register with CMS for one of the following reasons:
    1. If you are interested in joining/participating as part of a Virtual Group, you must go through an election process with CMS prior to the start of the performance period.  For 2023, this would have needed to be completed by December 31, 2022. For additional information, download the 2023 Virtual Groups Toolkit available on the CMS QPP Resource Library.
    2. If you are participating as a group or virtual group and elect to participate in the 2023 Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) for MIPS survey. In order for groups to elect to participate in the 2023 CAHPS for MIPS survey, they must register by June 30, 2023. To learn more about the CAHPS for MIPS survey, please see the CAHPS for MIPS Survey 2022 Fact Sheet (2023 fact sheet has not yet been released) available on the CMS QPP Resource Library.
  2. If you are participating in an Advanced APM or MIPS APM, you do not need to register on the CMS website, but an APM Entity must be established per the specific Advanced APM’s or MIPS APM’s requirements. For example, an ACO (the APM Entity) must be established to participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program.
