4. What are the patient relationship codes?

  1. Patient relationship codes are a code set used to identify patient relationship categories to improve the attribution of patients and care episodes to physicians who serve in different roles as part of the assessment of the cost of care. Under MACRA law, and subject to the rulemaking process, use of these codes became mandatory for Medicare claims on Jan. 1, 2018.
